![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Running makes A TON of noise and can attract multiple enemies towards you, plus there are plenty of movement options to escape from enemies, like shutting doors behind you as you run through them without turning around (Holding left click as you run through an open door), and vaulting over objects. They did it for a reason, you're not supposed to just run from enemies, ESPECIALLY on the higher difficulties, its a last ditch effort if stealth isn't an option, or you're doing some kind of objective that can't be done with stealth. I've definitely had fun, but there's also been frustrations and I think newcomers could get easily overwhelmed. I hope that since this is early access, patches will be made to further re-balance the game for different amounts of players. It's clearly inspired by Amnesia's 'sanity' system, so taking cues from that (and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem) would be appropriate. I don't think it has any impact on the likelihood of impostors showing up, although I think it could be an interesting wrinkle if psychosis made other players look like enemies, created 'fake' enemies, and other more elaborate hallucinations. Psychosis also distorts the voices of other players and makes it harder to focus. When you have 1/3 and 1/2 psychosis, you'll see Skinner Man popping around - he's harmless at this point, but it can still psych you out if you were expecting other people. ![]() I find the psychosis system interesting, although it can be taken even further. I've ended up having to spam jump on numerous occasions due to running out of stamina mid-chase. I find that stamina runs out really quickly and the game is designed so that you might be able to outrun individual enemies but when they work in conjunction it can really mess with you. Game might seem manageable on the regular modes, but it becomes incredibly hard on solo with the higher dfficulties. I get it’s meant to be hardcore and challenging but the BS RNG isn’t fun. If you wanna finish one trial with friends, you’ll need to prepare for at least an hour if you’re playing at a fast pace. I really don’t wanna push something, find all the right switches or valves and avoid 37 people roaming the area all the time. This game needs a huge balancing overhaul and a rework of mechanics. I can’t be scared when I’m pissed that although I saw the man in the barrel and tried to keep my distance, he jumps out anyway. It’s trying to do 45 jump scares a minute and to the point that it’s more frustrating than fun or scary. The character design and voice acting is really fantastic, I’ll give it that but it’s also not scary at all. Once you’ve played one you’ve kinda got it all figured out. Each trial just feels like a reskin of the others. It’s great that it does just work and play smoothly. I’ve seen huge and well deserved praise for the game just working. I’ve read that there’s some form of hard mode after you complete all the trials for the first time, so hopefully that’ll ramp up the difficulty a bit.īear in mind though that I played a ton of outlast 1 and 2, and this is only the first mission lol so maybe I’m bigging myself up too much. This just kind of made the game seem a bit easy to me? Especially with four players when everything just devolves into chaos really quick. The only times I took damage was when I was cornered or caught by surprise. You aren’t extremely disincentivised (if that’s a word) to just run around making a lot of noise, because you can easily outrun the enemies. I actually found that with a lot of enemies if you just run you’ll put more than enough distance between you and the attacker. What’s up with the psychosis meter? I understand that when it goes to zero a Medusa looking weirdo spawns up from the floor and chases you, but if you just run in a straight line you seem to make it out ok 90% of the time? And what happens when it’s only 1/3 or 2/3s full? With that being said, I have a few discussion points. I’ve only played two rounds of the trials so far, one with 3 other random strangers and one solo, and the first thing I would like to say is I think it’s an amazing game- it’s definitely scary, and I’m so glad the developers took the time they needed to release it because Im finding it really fun to play. I haven’t seen just a general discussion for the outlast trials yet and I’m wondering what everyone else thought of it. ![]()
